There's an old and dusty book upon a shelf--the binding cracked, the pages stained. It has an odd smell, not unpleasant. You remember it, somehow. The smell, but not precisely what the smell IS...

Was it the mud around the pond, damp and dank and sucking at your toes? Was it the wind--sweet with a stale note just at the end...an inhuman, human, wafting. Was it the curtains in the guest room at the farm, the peculiar stain on the lower hem... 

Do you remember when you could smell the stars? That's what this old volume smells like, all of that, all of those things. 

The book has a marked page--marked with an old photograph of a woman kneeling at a tombstone. It says, simply, "Elaine 1942?" The picture marks the page of the Spirit Summon Powder recipe--Bay for visions, Wormwood for helpful spirits...and always, always, always--tobacco for offering. The rest is stained and warped and indecipherable (those secrets shall remain).
