Cherished for its smooth pleasant fragrance, and considered to be the rarest, most expensive, and most prized of all candle waxes, BAYBERRY wax is produced by harvesting and boiling the berries of the Bayberry shrub. It takes about 15 pounds of bayberries to make just one pound of bayberry wax!

With wild bayberries growing abundantly in thickets along the North Atlantic coast, early American colonists used BAYBERRY wax to make candles. According to tradition, a bayberry candle burned all the way down on Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve brings good luck for the coming year. As the saying goes: "A bayberry candle burned to the socket brings food to the larder and gold to the pocket."
