June heralds the sacred celebration of St. John’s Eve on the 23rd, leading into St. John’s Day on the 24th, commemorating the birth of Saint John the Baptist. According to the Gospel of Luke, John was born six months before Jesus, linking his feast day to the summer solstice and Midsummer traditions.
 
A Night of Veneration in New Orleans
St. John’s Eve holds special significance in New Orleans Magic. The legendary Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau conducted annual rituals at Bayou St. John, cleansing and blessing participants, and led dances at Congo Square in the evening to honor the Loa spirits. Some believe that Marie Laveau herself rises to partake in these powerful rituals.
