This is a traditional Newari incense called Dhupaya. It is made traditionally using many precious Aromatic Himalayan Herbs. The finely powdered form of the herbs are wrapped in the thin strip of Lokta Paper and twined, forming a knotting stick. This incense helps clear sadness, depression, and nerves. 

The smoke coming out of the rope incense is believed to attract gods and hence it has been used extensively in the religious field both by Hindus and Buddhist.
